Headache & Migraine Relief in Riverdale, NJ

Treating the neck that is driving the headache, not just the pain. Dr. Jack A. Atzmon, DC.

You have been managing your headaches, not solving them

Most people with recurring headaches have a routine: the medication that takes the edge off, the dark room, the day written off. It works well enough that the underlying cause never gets examined.

Many of those headaches start in the neck. When that is the case, they respond to treating the neck.

Is my headache actually coming from my neck?

Often, yes, and it is the most commonly missed cause. Signs that point to the neck:

  • Pain that starts at the base of the skull and wraps forward
  • Headaches on one side, in a consistent pattern
  • Worse after long stretches at a desk, a screen, or driving
  • Neck stiffness or limited turning on the same side
  • Jaw tension or clenching alongside the headache

Nerves from the upper neck share pathways with the nerves that supply your head, which is why an irritated neck segment is felt as a headache. Dr. Atzmon examines the neck first for exactly this reason.

What kinds of headaches does Dr. Atzmon treat?

Tension headaches, cervicogenic headaches that originate in the neck, migraines with a musculoskeletal trigger, TMJ and jaw-related headaches, and headaches that began after a car accident or a blow to the head.

What he does not do is treat every headache the same way. Which type you have determines the plan, and that determination happens in the first visit.

How does chiropractic care relieve headaches?

By restoring motion to the neck segments that have stiffened, releasing the muscles pulling on the base of the skull, and taking pressure off the nerve pathways that refer pain into the head.

He also addresses the position that keeps reproducing it. A neck that spends eight hours a day pushed forward at a screen will keep generating headaches no matter what is done to it on the table.

How soon can I be seen, and will insurance cover it?

Same day in most cases, and we are open Saturday mornings. No referral is needed.

We are in network with most major New Jersey carriers. We verify your benefits before your visit and go over what to expect, so nothing about the cost is a surprise from us.
